T-Mobile's international calling rules come down to two situations: using your phone while you travel outside the U.S., and calling another country from the U.S.
What you get depends on your plan. T-Mobile's current plans are Essentials, Experience More and Experience Beyond. Prices and allowances below come from T-Mobile's own pages, checked 3 October 2026.
What's free and what's paid with T-Mobile international calling
T-Mobile international features by plan
From T-Mobile's international roaming page, for use in its 215+ covered countries and destinations:

Calls from the U.S. to other countries are a separate matter, covered below. Older plans such as Magenta, Magenta MAX and Go5G are still on many accounts. Their data allowances differ, so check yours in the T-Life app before you travel.
Calling abroad from the U.S. and the risk of bill shock
The word "unlimited" on a T-Mobile plan is easy to misread. It covers calls inside the U.S., and T-Mobile says most of its plans also include calls from the U.S. to Mexico and Canada. Calls to other countries are billed separately, and many people only find out when the bill arrives.
How per-minute rates add up
Without an add-on, T-Mobile's pay-per-use rate from the U.S. is $3.00 a minute to most countries, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, India and the Philippines, according to the rate table on its international calling page.
At that rate, a ten-minute call to family in Paris costs $30, and an hour to a landline in Spain costs $180.
The Stateside International Talk add-on
T-Mobile's fix for those rates is Stateside International Talk. For $15 a month you get unlimited calls from the U.S., Mexico or Canada to landlines in 70+ countries and mobiles in 30+, and discounted rates to the rest of the world. Some sample rates from T-Mobile's table, next to CallSky's:

When does it pay for itself?
Five minutes at $3.00 costs as much as a month of Stateside International Talk. If you call a covered country for more than a few minutes a month, the add-on is the better deal, and for heavy callers to the UK, Germany or India it beats CallSky too. For the Philippines it is also cheaper per minute than CallSky; for Nigeria, CallSky costs a little less.
If you call abroad only now and then, a pay-as-you-go app costs less than $15 a month.
Using your T-Mobile phone while traveling abroad
On Experience More and Experience Beyond, texting and data work as soon as your phone connects to a partner network in one of T-Mobile's 215+ destinations. Essentials gets texting but no data.
Calls are where it gets expensive. T-Mobile bills calls you make or receive while roaming at $0.50 a minute, so a 30-minute call home costs $15.
International Passes for short trips
An International Pass adds high-speed data and unlimited calls in the 215+ destinations, according to T-Mobile's International Pass page:
- $10 for 24 hours with 2GB of high-speed data
- $50 for 10 days with 15GB
- $75 for 30 days with 30GB
Only one pass can be active at a time. A pass doesn't discount calls from the U.S. to other countries; that is what Stateside International Talk is for.

Cheaper ways to make international calls
VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) apps make phone calls over the internet instead of the carrier's network. WhatsApp and FaceTime audio work the same basic way, but a VoIP calling app can also reach ordinary phone numbers, landlines included.

A checklist to avoid surprise international charges
- Check your plan in the T-Life app or My T-Mobile. Older plans have different allowances from the current ones.
- On Essentials, buy an International Pass before you need data abroad.
- Abroad, keep calls short or move them to a calling app on Wi-Fi: every minute made or received costs $0.50. If you'll talk a lot, a pass with unlimited calls may cost less.

Texting is unlimited in 215+ countries and destinations on Essentials, Experience More and Experience Beyond. Experience More adds 5GB of high-speed data and Experience Beyond 15GB, each followed by unlimited basic data. Calls are not free: they cost $0.50 a minute, made or received.
Is Experience Beyond worth it for travel?
It depends on how much data you use abroad. Experience Beyond includes 15GB of high-speed data in 215+ destinations, against 5GB on Experience More. If you travel often and would otherwise buy International Passes, the extra data can be worth it. Calls cost $0.50 a minute on both.
What if I'm calling another country from inside the U.S.?
Calls to most countries cost $3.00 a minute on pay-per-use. Most T-Mobile plans include calls to Mexico and Canada. If you call abroad often, the $15-a-month Stateside International Talk add-on gives you unlimited calls to landlines in 70+ countries and mobiles in 30+.
